The 20th annual Prairie Inn Harriers Thetis Lake Relays took to the trails of the park that has provided the training ground for such elite athletes as Bruce Deacon, Lucy Smith, Simon Whitfield, Lori Bowden and Jon Brown, to name a few.

Between Deacon, Whitfield and Brown, they have been to the Olympics collectively nine times, meanwhile Smith is a 20-time Canadian champion in various sports, and Bowden is a two-time Ironman world champion, but today the youth served notice.

The Prairie Inn Harrier’s Youth Team fielded the first and second overall finishers. It was the first time that a youth team has won the Relays or placed second.

The third place team was Frontrunners – a senior men’s team – which included Nick Walker, who led off with a 15:16 first lap, followed by Shawn Nelson, Mike Chandler and Mark Nelson. The Frontrunners team finished in the time of 1:06:43 for the 20K run that encompasses four laps of approximately 5K of hills, roots, rocks and mud.
