The University of Victoria women’s golf team finished in second after Day 2 of the Canadian University/College Golf Championship at Firerock Golf Course in Komoka, Ont. The Vikes have a 12 stroke gap to close on current leaders Laval, while UBC are right on their heels, just two strokes back.


First-year Vike Sukriti Harjai continued to impress shooting a 75 in her second round, improving by two strokes from the day previous. Harjai had one double bogey, one bogey, one birdie but par on 15 holes, including the entire back nine. Nicole Gargarella shot 76 in her second round carding three bogeys and par on the remaining 15 holes.

Vike Rhiannon Jones improved on her Day 1 score of 82 to shoot 78 on her second round, while Quinn Fitzgerald shot an 80.

Catherine Gariépy of the Rouge et Or took over first place in the women’s individual standings. Her 5-over-par performance through two rounds gives her the lead, trailed closely by Harjai (+6). Gariépy’s Laval teammates Noémie Ouellette and Florence Leduc fired the low rounds of the day at even par (73).

The individual champions in the women’s and men’s competitions receive exemptions into their respective Canadian Amateur Championship.
