For a second-straight tournament, Nicole Gargarella was the top Vike shooting a +13 over two rounds at the Boxer Spring Open on the Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, Oregon hosted by Pacific University. The fourth-year Vike from Etobicoke, Ont. combined score of 157 over the two days that earned her the top spot in the individual standings.
Teammates Quinn Fitzgerald, Melanie Murchison, Rhiannon Jones and Sukriti Harjai all finished right behind Gargarella in the two through five spots on the leaderboard to give the Vikes the tournament title.
“We felt coming into this weekend that we had a good chance to bring home a victory,” said Vikes head coach Justin Clews. “Led by Nicole and Quinn we had a really strong second-place finish earlier in the month at the Sea Lion Classic down in California. We were able to carry some of that momentum into this weekend.”
Fitzgerald was one stroke behind Gargarella posting a score of +14 (158) while Murchison shot a +18 (162) to finish third and Jones with a score of +22 (168) finished fourth. Rounding out the scores for the Vikes was rookie Harjai (169) who finished in fifth.
“The women are really starting to click as a group and I’m confident their strong play will continue in the coming weeks,” added Clews.
Next up, the Vikes with travel to Nipton, California for the Battle of the Primm tournament at the Primm Valley Golf Club on March 18-19.
