A lengthy Vancouver Island Soccer League season was down to two teams at Royal Athletic Park on Sunday. Westcastle United up against Bays United for the 104th Sir John Jackson Cup. The youth of Westcastle defeated the experience of Bays; flash and speed led by 16-year-old Nigerian Goteh Ntignee against experience and possession. Westcastle took it, 3-1.

“There is a good culture of soccer on the Island now,” said Coach Thomas Niendorf. “We now have all levels of soccer on the island.”

He was referring to the VISL’s first division, the USPDL with the Victoria Highlanders and now the Canadian Premiere League’s Pacific FC – the only pro team on the island.
