The Victoria Shamrocks have negotiated and completed a trade with the Maple Ridge Burrards that will see the club acquire right-handed offensive player Marshal King in exchange for the playing rights of Jeff Shattler and Brett Craig.
King, from Victoria, led the BC Junior A Lacrosse League in points per game average last season with 72 points (31 goals, 41 assists) in 11 games played (6.5 points per game average). As a young, consistent scoring threat, he is a welcome addition to the right side of the Shamrocks offensive line.
“We’re thrilled to get a young local player in Marshal King, who is one of the best prospects to come out of Victoria in a long time,” said Shamrocks General Manager Chris Welch. “We’re sad to see Shattler and Craig go, certainly the thought of Jeff helping one of our league arch-rivals isn’t appealing, and losing a bright, young prospect like Brett was hard, but we had to give something to get something.”
Shattler was last with the Shamrocks in 2016, as well as from 2009 through 2013. A fan favourite during his time with the club, Shattler tallied 338 points in 91 regular season games with the club. Craig played his first season with the Shamrocks in 2018, coming out of the Alberta Junior A program, where he made an immediate impact on his opponents with his 6’ 5”, 230 lb frame.
Welch added, “Adding Marshal to the mix is exciting to us, especially to have him playing alongside his brother, Jesse, and to hopefully see both of them in green and white for many years to come.”
“It’s pretty impossible for me to put into words; growing up idolizing players who played for the Shamrocks, and then watching the success my brother had with the club,” said King. “Getting an opportunity the last couple of years to be called up and get a taste of what it felt like, it was a life-changing experience to get that phone call that I was going to be a Senior A Shamrocks, it’s beyond exciting to get a chance to play for one of the greatest organizations in Canada.”
