Is it time to hit the panic button yet?

The Victoria Shamrocks lost another game Sunday night, 9-5 in Maple Ridge against the Burrards in the Cam Neely Arena.

It is a case of two teams going in distinctly different directions. While the Burrards sit atop the Western Lacrosse Association standings at 5-1, the Shamrocks are 1-4. Not a good start for a team that was expected to dominate the league this year.

The Mann Cup – the national championships – will be played on the west coast this year. The tournament switches coasts each year.

Shamrocks’ rookie Caleb Kueber scored two goals for Victoria, while rookie Larson Sundown, Chris Boushy, and Graeme Hossack scored once each. Another rookie Austin Madronic added a pair of assists.

For the Burrards, it was Riley Loewen who led the way with three goals.

Peter Dubenski made 29 saves in goal for the Shamrocks, while Frank Scigliano stopped 44.

The Shamrocks host the New Westminster Salmonbellies on Friday and the Maple Ridge Burrards on Sunday. The weekend set will be an opportunity for the Shamrocks to get on a roll.
