The Canadian Hockey League (CHL) today announced that Victoria Royals’ forward Tyler Soy has been named the CHL Player of the Week.

Soy, a Cloverdale, BC native recorded 12 points (3g-9a) in four games last week. The Anaheim Ducks prospect opened the week with a goal and four assists in two games against the Tri-City Americans. Soy followed that performance with three points (1g-2a) on Friday vs. the Spokane Chiefs and one goal and three assists against the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday. Soy has registered 13 points (4g-9a) in only five contests this season.

This is the second time the 5-11, 175 lb forward has been named the CHL Player of the Week as he also earned the honour in 2015-16. Soy is the fourth Royals’ player to have been named CHL Player of the Week after Alex Forsberg (2015-16), Brandon Magee (2014-15) and Alex Gogolev (2012-2013).

The 1997-born centre, who recently returned to the club after he attended the Anaheim Ducks (NHL) and San Diego Gulls (AHL) training camps, is in his fifth season with the Royals and has recorded 119 goals and 129 assists for 248 points over 262 regular season games.

Victoria will continue their season-long seven-game road trip tomorrow night against the Edmonton Oil Kings. The game is slated to start at 6:00 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time at Rogers Place in Edmonton, AB.
