The A-Team proved to be a force to be reckoned with on the flat track after defeating the Seattle-based Grave Danger Saturday night at Archie Browning Arena in Esquimalt.
A-Team MVP blocker, Ruby Roughhouser, says the calm bench and track mentality helped solidify the win over the tenacious Grave Danger skaters.
“The game felt calm and controlled from the start. When jams get moving too quickly with sweeping hits and frantic formations everything gets harder to do. The team really tried to focus on keeping things slow and letting the formidable Grave Danger offense roll off of us instead of getting us worked up.”
Although the score was as close as 14 points in the second half, MVP Jammer, Kariac Arrest, put up an impressive 32 point jam late in the period to bolster the team spirit. A move which helped the team push to a 288-133 win.
Prior to the headlining match, the Hard Cores, fell to Brass Knuckle Derby Dames 140-230. The Hard Cores debuted several rookies this game who all held their own on the track against some seasoned vet BKDD skaters.
Game MVP, Shovebug, who returned to play after a significant injury last fall says:
“This past year, on top of my ankle healing, I’ve had quite a few complications. The love I felt from my team and coaches, the cheers from the fans, and support of my partner cheering me on from the crowd clicked something inside me. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the season will hold.”
