Pacific FC was handed their first loss of the season Wednesday night as Valour FC took the game 2-1. On a cool, windy evening, the teams were deadlocked to 78-minutes at Westhills Stadium before defender Ryan McCurdy had the ball deflect off of his leg and into the goal. Dylan Carreiro took the fatal shot.
It was the Winnipeg based team’s first goal and first win.
Stephen Hoyle an import from the UK – there are four on the Valour roster scored the first goal in Valour history at the 23-minute mark.
Jose Hernandez tied the game up at 45 minutes for Pacific FC. He nailed a header deep in the box. The ball bounced off of the foot of a Valour fullback. Hernandez is a former Whitecaps Academy player.
Later in the game, Captain Marcus Haber bounced the ball off the post twice on the same play. He had several glorious opportunities to score but came up short each time.
Hendrik Starostzik from Germany, who wears the name “Staro” on the back of his jersey scored Pacific FC’s first goal on Sunday night against the visiting HFX Wanderers, was lost to injury.
Fellow defender Lukas MacNaughton signed on March 7 from Ontario All-Stars was out serving his one-game suspension as he was red-carded on Sunday in the HFX Wanderers game.
Next up for Pacific FC will be against Forge FC in Hamilton.
