Victoria Royals’ forward Kody McDonald’s suspension was announced on Tuesday by the Western Hockey League at six games. He has already served two games while the Royals are in a series against the Kamloops Blazers.
McDonald swung his stick at a Kamloops Blazers forward while both players were at their respective benches.
McDonald was apparently responding to what he may have thought were off-colour comments made towards Royals forward Tanner Sidaway. The stick swinging incident apparently broke the glasses of a Blazers assistant.
McDonald was at first suspended indefinitely and now he is off for a total of six games.
“The WHL takes incidents of this nature very seriously. Actions of this kind are unacceptable to the WHL,” said Ron Robinson the WHL commissioner
The forward who was acquired earlier this season from Prince Albert Raiders for Dante Hannoun will return Saturday, April 13 for Game 5 against the Vancouver Giants, providing the series goes that far.
The Royals and Giants will faceoff Friday in Langley at 7:30 pm and Saturday at 7:00 pm. They play in Victoria at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre Tuesday and Thursday next week.
