Team Canada currently sits in third place in the HSBC Rugby 7s World Series behind New Zealand and USA. New Zealand is sitting with a perfect 60 points having earned three gold medals during the first three series tournaments in Glendale, AZ, Dubai and Sydney, AUS.

Canada won bronze, silver and finished fifth in Sydney.

Friday, Canada orchestrated a come-from-behind win over Spain, in Kitakyushu, Japan. They won by the score of 26-17 after being down 10-7 at the half and 17-4 with three minutes remaining in the match.

Bianca Farella stole the ball to run in for a try to complete the comeback moments after Charity Williams ran in with an 80-metre try down the field.

Next up are games against China and Australia during the round robin portion – then the playoffs begin.

The Japan tournament is number four of a total six HSBC tourneys played during the 2018-2019 season. Canada, sitting in third, can qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics; the top four teams get berths.

Canada will have the opportunity to confirm their Olympic position at home in Langford at Westhills Stadium during the next HSBC tournament May 11 and 12.
