Victoria area race car driver Bill Okell is in action this coming weekend as the Sports Car Club of America’s U.S. Majors Tour – Western Conference, gears up for race #7 & #8, at the mid-point in the 16-event, seven-month schedule, at Bakersfield, California’s Buttonwillow Raceway Park.

Okell will drive the San Francisco-based McKinney/Okell Motorsports Nissan 240 SX in the GT-3 race. Bill Okell is no stranger to Buttonwillow Raceway as he has numerous wins and track records in the U.S. Majors Tour, over the last four years driving for Huffaker Engineering and their MG Midgets. This will be the first and only appearance this season that the U.S. Majors Tour visits the SCCA, California Sports Car Club’s desert owned 3.05-mile road course.

Okell currently sits in fourth place in the GT-3 standings with only four races into the season so far. His best results were back in late January at U.S. Auto Club Speedway in the season opener where he logged a second and third place finish.

It was only a  short two weeks ago that Bill Okell’s driving career was acknowledged by his racing peers, at Western Speedway with his induction into the Victoria Auto Racing Hall of Fame. With 44 years of competition behind him, he still continues to race on at 64 years of age, competing in the Sports Car Club of Americas National Championship road racing program, for which he now enters his sixth straight year. His best finish, a fifth place at the 2018 SCCA Run-Offs at Sonoma Raceway park, after starting in 15th place in the GT-Lite race. He plans to race later on this year in his own Nasport Lite MGB at Laguna Seca and Sonoma Raceway park.
