The University of Victoria Vikes women’s cross-country team began their 2015 campaign with a second place finish in Salem, Ore. on Oct. 3 at the Charles Bowles Invitational. Three Vikes – third-year Alison Hooper, fifth-year Shauna McInnis and second-year Chloe Hegland – finished in the top 10. After missing time with the Vikes to focus on triathlons, Hooper led the pack for the Vikes with a time of 17:42.9.
After a fifth place finish and strong individual performancesat the Western Washington Classic and BC Cross-Country Championships, respectively, the Vikes turned their attention to the CIS National Championships in Guelph, Ont.on Nov. 14. The Vikes were ranked number five in the country in the weekly CIS Top 10 polls going into the final race of the season.
After the Vikes placed sixth last season, the Vikes came away with a seventh place finish in the country and fourth in the Canada West at the CIS Championships. Hegland topped all Vikes with a 21st place finish in the country and ninth in the conference. McInnis and third-year Emma Bibault were named Canada West Second Team All-Stars.
