In the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League, the Westshore Wolves kept pace with the Peninsula Panthers Wednesday night with a 3-1 win at Juan de Fuca Arena. The game was moved up the hill to JDF as The Q Centre was being used for the IIHF 2019 World Juniors selection camp.

The Wolves are sitting in last place in the South Division behind the Panthers. After Wednesday’s win, they are just one point back and have two games in hand.

After a nil-nil first period, the Wolves ganged up on the Panthers and scored three unanswered goals during the second period. They got one each from Parker Ellis, Benjamin Duffin and Andy Westhaver. Ellis’s goal came at 1:59 and Duffin’s 53 seconds later.

Duffin picked up an assist on the Westhaver goal. The 18-year-old Victoria native is in his third season as a Wolves, player, although he didn’t suit up 2016-2017. Last season he got 10 points in 44 games, this season he already has 12 in 28.

David Edgar tried to make a game of it by scoring at 9:18 of the third, but nothing doing.

The Panthers pounced with 33 shots, while the Wolves managed 27. Both powerplays failed to score going 0/2 and 0/3 for the Panthers and Wolves respectively.

Connor McKillop took the loss in goal for the Panthers, while Luke Sheldrake was awarded the win in his 32-save effort.

Thursday, the Saanich Braves visit the Victoria Cougars, while the Campbell River Storm visits the Nanaimo Buccaneers.
