The next game for the Victoria Rebels takes place Saturday, August 27th at home in Langford at Westhills Stadium. They will be hosting the Chilliwack Valley Huskers.
The 4-1 British Columbia Football Conference team is tied for second place overall with the Langley Rams. Not only have they won four of five games, but they also defeated the bitter Vancouver Island rivals the Raiders – the former Victoria-based team that gathered up all of their belongings and headed north without so much as a look back.
The Rebels started the season at home on July 24th and defeated the Langley Rams 42-34. One week later they hosted the Raiders and overwhelmed them by the score of 45 -22, that one must have hurt (the Raiders). It was the very first time that the team that rose from the proverbial ashes – like the phoenix – defeated their island rivals.
During their first road game, the Rebels visited the perennially-strong Okanagan Sun and suffered their first loss of the season 27-21. Perhaps they were still picking their jaws up off the turf from destroying the Raiders the week before.
The Rebels then refocussed and visited the Kamloops Broncos, taking them out 45-32.
Playing three consecutive road games is tough, but the town of Chilliwack is a nice place to visit and win a football game, which the Rebels did once again. They doubled the Valley Huskers 47-23. That’s four decisive wins in five games.
