Not often in football do teams end a game in a tie, but that is what the Westshore Rebels and Okanagan Sun did Saturday for the Rebels home opener at Westhills Stadium. The game ended at 18-18.

The Rebels came back during the fourth quarter. Down 18-12. With less than three minutes remaining, Byron McKinnon sacked quarterback Matthew Mahler. The ball hit the turf and was subsequently recovered by Lowhya Lako. He ran the ball in, over half the length of the field to score the touchdown.

The Sun were leading by the score of 12-3 at the half and 15-3 during the third quarter. The Rebels scored a touchdown to get within five.

The teams were awarded one point (rouge) instead of the three points for the potential win as the Rebels kicker missed field goal attempt at the end of the game.

The Sun opened the season with a 56-6 win over the Kamloops Broncos the week prior. While the Rebels had opened their season with a 19-16 victory over the Langley Rams.
