Victoria Grizzlies

When the Grizzlies take on Wenatchee Wild today at 2:00 pm at The Q Centre, they will be facing somewhat of a new team. These two teams have only played each other once before, and that was last month with the final score being 6-5 for Wenatchee in overtime. If that game is any indication, this will be a close game with lots of scoring.

The Grizzlies’ Alex Newhook suffered a broken wrist and will likely be out for the rest of the regular season; he should, however, be back and ready to go for playoffs. In the meantime, the Grizzlies will be relying on guys like Justin Michaelian, Jamie Rome, and Ethan Nother to continue their solid offensive seasons. They are also looking to the rest of the team to step up and fill in the empty spot that Newhook leaves. The team is confident they can do just that.

The BCHL season is coming to a close and while the Grizzlies have already clinched a playoff spot, they still don’t know who they will play or if they will have home ice advantage or not. Right now they are first in the island division and if the season ended today, the Grizzlies would be in a good position. Unfortunately, the season doesn’t end today and the team still has more games that they need to win ahead of them.

Match Up Of The Night

              Dayne Finnson                      VS                 Cooper Zech
Wenatchee has a ton of skilled defensemen just like the Grizzlies. So putting the two top d-men on both teams against each other seemed like a natural conclusion. Finnson has been a solid defender for the Grizzlies going on two seasons now. The left hander from Arborg, Manitoba leads the Grizzlies defensemen in scoring with  4 goals and 30 assist so far this season. Zech, for Wenatchee, has had a great season so far as well and currently sits with 51 assists to go with his 11 goals. These two will have to lead their teams in both ends of the ice all season.
