The University of Victoria Vikes women’s basketball team is pleased to announce the commitment of 17-year-old Brooklyn White for the 2019-20 season.

“Brooklyn is a great athlete and has a huge upside at the next level,” commented Vikes head coach Dani Sinclair. “She is strong, has good instincts and is versatile to play in different positions. We are very excited to welcome her to our program and look forward to working with her next season.”

White has spent her high school career playing at Yale Secondary in Abbotsford, B.C. and also spent time with the B.C. Finest elite basketball program over the last two years. The 6’1 center was awarded Athlete of the Year honours in 2014, 2015 and 2017.

“I am beyond excited to the join the Vikes next year,” said White. “After my first visit to the campus, I could picture myself being here for my post-secondary education and basketball career. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to play for the coaching staff.”

White plans to study education when she arrives at the University of Victoria campus in the fall of 2019.

“I made several trips to the island as a kid each year to visit family,” added White. ” I fell in love the island at a young age, the UVic campus is beautiful and the perfect size for someone looking for the large university environment without fear of constantly getting lost.”

“My plan is to study education with a minor in kinesiology with hopes to one day run my own high school course as a sports medicine teacher. I want the opportunity to educate young athletes on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of sport-related injuries.”
