Friday started with that bang as Cowichan came down Island and defeated their friends from Bays United. Colin Knight and Kevan Brown scored the Cowichan goals.
Earning another clean sheet for Cowichan was Keeper Darian Achurch.
Late drama was the story at Hampton Turf as Gorge snuck in a draw vs Nanaimo.
Nanaimo goal was scored by Daragh Fitzgerald. Gorge got the equalizing goal via a penalty kick, scored by Tony Litke at 90 minutes.
Saturday started off with Westcastle hosting Comox at Westhills and they did so by defeating them 6-0. Scoring for Westcastle was Jonathan Walter, Keenan Colley, Goteh Ntignee, Spencer Schrader, and Simon Stacey with 2. Earning the shutout for Westcastle was Sachdev Grewal.
The feature game on Saturday night was the VISL Game Of The Week in Ladysmith.
It had division leader Mid Isle hosting #2 Lakehill. The game did not disappoint and Lakehill came out with a 2-0 win to take over top spot in the division. Lakehill goals were scored by Keegan Lang and Thomas Mallette. Earning the shutout and having a busy night was Keeper Hardeep Gahunia. Game Man Of The Match honours went to Lakehill’s Tarnvir Bhandal.
The last game of the weekend today had Fernwood hosting Vic West, and Vic West came out with a 4-1 win. Scoring for Vic West and Fernwood were unavailable at release time.
So as we head into the Christmas break, here is how the chase for the Garrison Cup and Division 1 Championship goes:
The big story is Lakehill jumping into 1st place. Not to be discounted are both Cowichan and Westcastle who have two games in hand. 2019 should prove to have some interesting games.
