Here is how Vancouver Island Soccer League Division 1 rolled out this weekend, needless to say, it had its fair share of surprises:
Cowichan hosted Vic West and the game finished in a 2-2 draw. This was yet another draw for Cowichan and while they remain undefeated, this is the third tie so far this season.
Cowichan goals were scored by Russell Lederer and Kevan Brown. Vic West goals were scored by Evan Gray and permitted youth player Salem Almardy who is having a stellar season.
The game apparently got heated on the Vic West side of things as they also received two red cards in the last couple minutes of play.
Bays United struggles continue as Lakehill went to Oak Bay High and defeated them handily by the score of 4-1. Lakehill markers were put in by Keegan Lang, permitted youth player Reid Adams, and Blair Sturrock with a pair.
The Bays only goal was by Craig Gorman.
Gorge was able to sneak by Comox by the score of 1-0. It was Mike Moon scoring for the Gorge. Gorge clean sheet was courtesy Iain Walker.
Big match at Merle Logan turf has Mid Isle defeat then division leader Nanaimo 5-2.
Mid Isle goals by Ryan Andre, Dan Citra, Jeff Travis, James Taylor, and Andres Algarin.
Nanaimo responded with goals from Daniel Cato and Miguel Alabbasi. The win put Mid Isle in first place – via a better goal difference.
The final match of the weekend was the Game of the Week at Blanshard between Fernwood and Westcastle. The visitors defeated Fernwood by score of 2-0.
Westcastle got goals by Joey Seo and Manhai Mammoud. Westcastle shutout by goaltender Simon Norgrove, but the MVP of the match, in a losing cause, was the Fernwood Keeper Jesse Rice.
Here are how the standings for the Division 1 Garrison Cup now look as week six has come and gone. The promoted team from last year leading the way as Mid Isle continue to come up with big games.
