Week 11 has passed us by, and there were plenty of interesting storylines in the top flight of the Island Soccer League – Division 1.
Here is a quick snapshot of what happened:
Friday night at Sherman Rd. Turf saw Cowichan edge out Gorge. Cowichan goals were scored by Stevan Zoric and returnee Craig Gorman. Mike Moon had the lone marker for Gorge.
In the Game Of The Week, Lakehill edged out Westcastle 3-2. A very nice individual effort by Goteh Ntigness as he scored a pair for Westcastle. Scoring for the Reds was Wesley Barrett, Blair Sturrock, and Keegan Lang. Man of the Match honours went to Lakehill’s Blair Sturrock.
A lopsided match in Oak Bay had Bays Utd defeat a shorthanded Fernwood by the score of 14-0. Clean sheet by Keeper Andrew Flello who was not too busy. Bays goals – Manny Straith, Craig Robertson, Adam Ravenhill with 2, Brandon Wallace, James Rhodes with 4, and Patrick Nelson with 5.
In what almost turned out to be a huge upset in Ladysmith, Mid Isle and Comox drew 2-2.
Comox goals by Darren Bergh and Travis Brown. Mid Isle goals by Ryan Andre and Matt Arnett in the 90th minute.
The final game of the weekend saw Vic West and Nanaimo tie each other 1-1. Vic West goal by Nic Budisa who has been a welcome addition to the green and white. The Nanaimo goal was scored by midfielder Matt Mehrassa.
Here are how the standings and the chase for the Garrison Cup look after a weekend with some unexpected results. Mid Isle has their lead shortened, and Lakehill jump right into the thick of things.
A lot of goals on the weekend changes how the golden boot for Division 1 is shaped.
Here is how the top 5 look now:
It was a great weekend for local soccer – all games were played even though the weather tried not to cooperate. Thanks for supporting your community.
