The four-day Canadian University/College Golf Championships in Barrie, Ont. wrapped up today, Jun. 1 and the Victoria Vikes were unable to climb their way to the top of the leaderboard. Another day of high winds made conditions difficult for the 23 women and 57 men who qualified for the final round of play. The Vikes women struggled as they finished with their highest round of the week, +46 (262) to finish five shots back of second-placed Toronto. The UBC Thunderbirds walked away with the women's championship with a +70 (934) score, 53 strokes ahead of the Varsity Blues.

"I'm pretty proud of the team this week as it was a really tough course and they all played well and contributed scores," said Ferreira, the only senior in the group. "It's unfortunate that today's weather was so horrible because I think we could have put up some great scores. The girls have really growing up this year and we are great team mates through thick and thin. They are all on their way to becoming amazing players."

Fourth year Ferreira was the top Vike finishing +40 (328) after four rounds. Hannah Diamond finished 11thand showed solid consistency with two rounds of 82 and two rounds of 85 to finish +46 (334). Vike Quinn Fitzgerald finished tied for 13th and Nicole Gargarella was 16th overall.

"This was Laura's last event as a Vike and she really battled hard out there today," said Vikes head coach Justin Clews. "Over her years as a Vike she showed great progression from trying to make a traveling team in her first year to being a great leader and captain for the team all season."

UBC's Kat Kennedy won her second-straight title with an impressive +14 (302) finish, 15 strokes ahead of second placed Laura Upenieks of Toronto.

On the men's side the Vikes were unable to find the upwards momentum they needed to catch Laval and Wilfrid Laurier at the top of the standings. Laval won the tournament by two strokes, +75 (1211), over the Golden Hawks. The Vikes shot their highest round of the week, +34 (318), to drop to seventh place overall.

"On the men's side it was a pretty disappointing week," said Clews. "I felt we had a strong team this week but we didn't bring our best play and it definitely showed in the windy conditions. It's something to learn from and prepare ourselves better for next year."

Rowe battled through the conditions but carded a +8 (79) in his final round to finish +12 (296) after four rounds. Rowe was two shots back of Toronto's Kevin Fawcett and Laval's Baptiste Mory who tied for second, while UBC's Evan Holmes took home the individual title with an impressive +5 (289) total score.

"Individually, Lawren's fourth-place finish overall was good but the ultimate goal was a team and individual win," added Clews on Rowe, who was named an All-Canadian following the championship. "This was also Alex's last event as a Vike and despite his finish this week he was a very important part of our team's successes over the past five seasons."

Mike Griffin finished tied for 12th and was +20 (304) overall. Team mate Bruce Tomie carded three birdies and was par on 11 holes to shoot a 76 on Day 4 and finished tied for 25th. Vikes Alex Cartwright and Jake Hamilton both shot +13 (84) in their final round and finished 55th and 56th, respectively.
