The Vikes women remain perfect in 2018 with a road-trip sweep of the Manitoba Bisons last weekend. Now on a six-game win streak the Vikes return home for 5-straight games in CARSA starting with a double-header against the UNBC Timberwolves. The Vikes are 10-4 on the season and are tied for fourth in the conference, while UNBC are 8-8 on the season.

The Vikes finally got the much-needed victories to get their season back on track after a weekend road sweep of the Manitoba Bisons. It was a team effort all weekend that put the Vikes back up, now 8-6 and seventh in the conference, as the race for the playoffs gets closer. This weekend the Vikes begin their five-game home campaign with a pair of games against the UNBC Timberwolves (7-9).

The annual Vikes women’s field hockey indoor tournament hits the hard wood in McKinnon Gymnasium this weekend. The 8-team tournament features a lot of talent from Vancouver Island, while West Vancouver will also be participating. The Vikes will enter two teams (UVic Royal and UVic White) in the 6v6 indoor format and are usual contenders for the championship title.

The Vikes men’s field hockey team are one game into a four-game run of home games. Following last weekend’s 12-4 loss to the powerful UBC Thunderbirds, the Vikes will now play host to the West Vancouver Millionaires. The Vikes are 1-8-1 in their season, while the Millionaires are at the top of the 10-team standings with an unbeaten 10-0-1 record.

It’s the start of the second Canada West Rugby 7s Series, where the CW teams will play three tournaments over the next two months. The first tournament of the year is hosted by the Alberta Pandas, while the remaining two tournaments are at Fraser Valley (Feb. 10-11) and Victoria (Feb. 24-25). This is the second year of a three-year pilot project to provide CW student-athletes with rugby 7s competition. The series champion will be based on cumulative series points, with the champions officially being crowned on Feb. 25 in Victoria.

Following a tough training tour in Phoenix, Arizona earlier this January, the Vikes are set to put their training to the test at the SFU Dual meet at Commonwealth Pool this Saturday.
