Another two wins at home for the Vikes women last weekend against UNBC secured the Vikes’ eight-game win streak and, ultimately, a playoff spot. Dani Sinclair’s hoops squad are now 12-4, while this weekend’s visitors Mount Royal are 1-15.
The Vikes split last weekend with the visiting UNBC Timberwolves but their dominating 106-77 win on Saturday moved the team to 9-7 on the season. They currently sit in a three-way tie for sixth-place in a tight Canada West playoff race. The Mount Royal Cougars will visit CARSA this weekend and they are currently 7-9.
MEN’S FIELD HOCKEY
The Vikes men’s field hockey team will prepare to host the United Brothers this weekend. After last weekend’s home game against West Vancouver was cancelled due to weather the Vikes will be eager to hit the turf on the hunt for their first win of 2018.
Sunday, Jan. 28: Vikes vs. United Brothers (12:30 p.m., Water-based Turf Field 1)
It’s the start of the 2018 half of the season for the Vikes and what better than to square off with University rivals the UBC Thunderbirds. The Vikes will be on the road to visit the Vancouver campus for their opening game of the BC Premier League. This game will also serve as the second installment of the annual Wightman Boot series. UBC won the Sept. 23 match up 44-24 at Wallace Field.
Saturday, Jan. 27: Vikes at UBC (2:30 p.m., Vancouver, B.C.)
MEN’S & WOMEN’S SWIMMING
The Vikes have been non-stop since the start of 2018. A warm weather training tour in Phoenix in earlier January plus a SFU-UVic dual this past weekend has set the Vikes up for success heading into this weekend’s Vancouver Island Regional Championship.
