Sept. 27: Victoria Vikes 78, Westshore RFC 26 (Westshore Recreation Centre, Colwood, B.C.)

The University of Victoria Vikes men’s rugby continued their torrent pace to begin their 2015-16 BC Rugby Union premier season and pursuit of the Barnard Cup with a dominant 78-26 dismantling of Westshore RFC on Sept. 26 in Colwood, B.C. at the Westshore Recreation Centre. The Vikes add to the win column, moving their overall record to 2-0 while Westshore falls to 0-2.

A total of 14 different Vikes found the score sheet on Saturday, including 12 Vikes earning tries and seven conversions from third-year Vikes’ fullback Fergus Hall. Third-year outside half Guiseppe du Toit added two conversions to add to the Vikes’ offensive display.

The Westshore defence has been less than stellar to begin this season, allowing 140 points through their first two games while the revamped Vikes have allowed only 26 points thanks to a shutout against James Bay last weekend. The Vikes jumped to an early lead and entered the break with a 22-3 lead over Westshore. A try-filled second half for the Vikes in which they scored 56 points past Westshore followed.

The Vikes entertain the Castaway Wanderers at Wallace Field Oct. 3 in their pursuit of the Bernard Cup while Westshore will take on James Bay Athletic Association.
