Sept. 18-19: Saint Martin’s Invitational Tournament (Lacey, Wash.)

The University of Victoria Vikes men’s golf team wrapped up their third and final round today, Sept. 19, at the Saint Martin’s Invitational at Olympia Country & Golf Club in Olympia, Wash. Following tough conditions on the final day, the Vikes men finished fourth overall with a team score of 881 after three rounds. Second-year Vike Lawren Rowe was the top Vike after finishing fourth in a field of 81.


The UBC Thunderbirds finished first overall with two players in the top 10, Jack Wood and Trent Abraham, while their remaining team members finished tied for 12th. The T-Birds shot 293 in their final round to finish with an 856 score. Simon Fraser finished second overall with a team score of 862 thanks to an outstanding third round from first-place finisher Chris Crisologo. Crisologo topped the field with a third-round score of 63.

Dixie State University placed third, ahead of Victoria, with a team score of 866, while the Vikes shot 302 in their third round to push them back into fourth. Rowe shot his highest round on the final day, finishing with a 74 after opening rounds of 69 and 70. No Vike was able to break below par today asMike Griffin shot 74 to finish tied for 16th and with a three-round score of 219. Second-year VikeAndrew Funk finished tied for 22nd after shooting 77 today and 221 overall. Vikes Matthew Broughtonand Jake Hamilton shot 77 and 83, respectively, in their final round.

Statistically, second-year Vike Griffin totaled 40 pars after 54 holes, while Funk hit 12 birdies and Rowe logged two eagles throughout the tournament.

Following this event, the Vikes will now prepare to travel to Bellingham, Wash. to compete in the Western Washington Invitational at Bellingham Golf and Country Club. The Vikings will host the two-day tournament on Sept. 21-22. Vikes Rowe, Griffin, Funk and Hamilton are set to compete at the event and they will be joined by senior Alex Cartwright who replaces Broughton in this tournament.
