Upcoming games and special events for the University of Victoria Vikes varsity teams. All times listed below are in Pacific Time. Home events are highlighted in YELLOW. 

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The Vikes women’s basketball team host their first pair of pre-season games this week against UNBC. Both games are a part of the Guy Vetrie Memorial Tournament, Sept. 27-29, at the CARSA Performance Gym. The Vikes will feature a similar lineup to last season with the talents of fifth years Kristy Gallagher and Amira Giannattasio running the floor, while the return of senior Paige Thomson will also be a big boost to the roster.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

The Vikes men’s basketball team start their pre-season this week with the annual Guy Vetrie Memorial Tournament, Sept. 27-29, at the CARSA Performance Gym. The Vikes will host Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ryerson for a round-robin weekend of games. This will be the first look for Victoria fans to see incoming recruits and transfers Jesse Barnes, Carlos Costa and Rohtash Mattu, while returnees Jordan Charles, Hayden Lejeune, Scott Kellum and Mason Loewen will all be back in the blue and gold. LIVE STATS | PPV WEBCAST 

Thursday, Sept. 27: Manitoba vs Ryerson (6:00 p.m.), Victoria vs Saskatchewan (8:00 p.m.) – CARSA Performance Gym

Friday, Sept. 28: Ryerson vs Saskatchewan (4:00 p.m.), Victoria vs. Manitoba (6:00 p.m.) – CARSA Performance Gym *Days of Thunder Event*

Saturday, Sept. 29: Manitoba vs Saskatchewan (5:00 p.m.), Victoria vs Ryerson (7:00 p.m.) – CARSA Performance Gym 

MEN’S & WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

The Vikes cross country teams are off to California this weekend to race in the Stanford Invitational. It is the season opener for the young Vikes side. Mainland rivals UBC will be at the same event so it will be an opportunity to match up against their Legends Cup rivals, before hosting them in an invitational later in October. The women’s team has five new faces to add to the roster’s depth and goals of getting on the podium at U SPORTS nationals, while the men are led by veterans Josh Kozelj and Brendon Hoff.

MEN’S GOLF

The Vikes men’s golf team are in Bellingham, Wash. for the Western Washington Invitational. The Vikes are travelling with a young team of just two returning Vikes, Jake Hamilton and Josh Miller, and new additions Andrew Bruce, Robin Conlan and Max Murchison.

MEN’S RUGBY

The Vikes men’s rugby team are off to Burnaby this weekend for their first B.C. Premier away game. Last weekend the Vikes had a second-half comeback to drop the James Bay AA Bays, 48-26, at Wallace Field. The team was led by Crosby Stewart’s return of three tries and the kicking accuracy of Gradyn Bowd who had five converts and one penalty goal. The Vikes will face Burnaby (1-1-0) who recently lost to the UBCOB Ravens by 46-3 but started their season off with a big win over the Vancouver Rowing Club.

Saturday, Sept. 29: Vikes at Burnaby Lake (2:30 p.m., Burnaby, B.C.)

WOMEN’S RUGBY

The Vikes women’s rugby team are looking to bounce back after a home loss to Calgary last weekend. They will host the UBC Thunderbirds in the second leg of the Legends Cup series for women’s rugby. The Vikes are currently 1-2 in their Canada West season, while the Thunderbirds are 2-1.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

The Vikes women’s soccer team improved to 4-3-0 on the weekend after two shutout wins at home over Thompson Rivers and UBC Okanagan. The Vikes found their scoring strides blanking the WolfPack 3-0 and later knocking off the Heat by 6-0. The Vikes now prepare for five games on the road starting this weekend with a trip to MacEwan and then UNBC. LIVE STATS | PPV WEBCAST

Sunday, Sept. 30: Vikes at UNBC (12:00 p.m., Prince George, B.C.) 

MEN’S SOCCER

After a split weekend at home, with a narrow loss to Calgary and big win over Lethbridge, the Vikes are set to host just one game this week on a Thursday. This game is a make-up game from the Aug. 25 game that was supposed to be in Prince George but was postponed due to intense B.C. wildfire smoke. The Vikes are in the middle of the Pacific Division standings with a 3-3-3 record, while the Timberwolves are at 3-1-2.   LIVE STATS | PPV WEBCAST
