The BCLA Subway Youth Field Lacrosse Provincials will be taking place in Victoria starting from Friday, Feb. 10 and will run through the weekend. All medal games will take place Monday, the 13thstarting at 10:45; the final games go at 4:00 pm.

There will be a total of 48 teams from across the province competing in the round robin format tournament, which will be taking place at the University of Victoria.

Under-18, U15 and U13 Tiers 1 and 2 teams will be competing.

The defending champions in the Tier 1 U18 division are the Langley Adanacs, who also took gold in Tier 2, and U13 Tier 1, bronze in the U15 Tier 1 and silver in the U15 Tier 2. Victoria earned a silver medal in the U13 Tier 1 competition last year.

The last time Victoria won the marquee event was in 2014 when they took gold in the U19 Tier 1 division. The lower mainland is a typically a strong region for developing competitive players and often medal in most categories.

BC and Canada are considered powerhouses in the lesser-known game of field lacrosse to it cousin box lacrosse.

Every four years the International Lacrosse Federation holds a World Championships at the Junior and Senior levels. The top teams are typically Canada, United States and Australia.

The Pacific Rim Field Lacrosse Association is hoping that there will be lots of local fan support as many of the players are Canada’s elite.
