The Western Lacrosse Association 2016 junior draft was held Wednesday night in Vancouver and the Victoria Shamrocks drafted six players; Northway, Cullen, Moffat, Klingsporn, Rybka, and Fair.
General Manager Chris Welch was pleased with the 2016 draft, “considering where we picked, we were very happy with our selections. Taylor Northway is a prospect that is highly regarded and has the potential to be the steal of the draft. We are excited to add local product Max Cullen to our team and he has shown in the past when we’ve called him up that he can play in the WLA. We welcome all six players to the Shamrocks organization and excited about their development”
1st pick (14th overall) was Taylor Northway, who is a defensive transitional player listed at 6’ and 203lbs with 15 points in 16 games for Coquitlam.
2nd pick (21st overall) was Max Cullen, who is a defensive player from Victoria Jr. A and listed at 5’11 and 175lbs with 8 points in 20 games in 2015. Max is from Saanichton.
3rd pick (30th overall) was Thomas Moffat, a forward listed at 6’5” and 220lbs with 18 goals and 31 assists playing with Langley and Victoria in 2015. Thomas is from Vancouver.
4th pick (35th overall) was Sam Klingsporn, a defensive player listed at 6’3” and 195lbs with 6 points in 2015 with Delta. Sam is from Aloha, Oregon.
5th pick (42nd overall) was Mike Rybka, listed at 5’11” and 180lbs with 19 goals and 34 assists with Coquitlam in 2015.
6th pick (49th overall) was Tyson Fair, listed at 5’11” and 175 lbs with the Armstrong Jr. B team.
