Victoria Shamrocks defeat Nanaimo Timbermen; Casey Jackson scores 8
Both teams came in on a full days rest after playing at home on Friday. Victoria played an extra ten minutes, collecting a single point in an exciting 12-12 tie with New Westminster. While Nanaimo was coming off a 10-7 win versus Maple Ridge.
Nanaimo stormed out of the gate, opening the scoring on the power play, before making it 2-0 moments later, with both goals coming from Chase Fraser. Casey Jackson’s eighth of the season, the second-highest total on the team, cut the deficit in half. Jon Phillips then restored the two goal lead for the home side near the mid-way point of the opening stanza. Josh Fagan joined the scoring party for the second straight game. His two goals against New Westminster on Friday were his first two of the season, he equaled that total in the first period. Fagan scored a pair late in the period to tie the game heading to the first intermission.
Ryan Lee singlehandedly put Nanaimo in front not once but twice, scoring the Timbermen’s first three goals of the period. Victoria clawed back every time, Paul Brebber tied the game at four, Corey Small and Casey Jackson combined to tie it at six. Mike Triolo scored Victoria’s third straight goal to turn a 6-4 deficit into a 7-6 lead, but they weren’t done there. Corey Small and Casey Jackson scored fifty seconds apart as momentum was wearing a green and white sweater. Jackson scored again one hundred seconds later, making it six straight goals for Victoria, and putting them at double digits with 4:56 left in the second period. Nanaimo finally stopped the ‘Rocks run as Conrad Chapman brought Nanaimo to within three, but it didn’t last long. Exactly two minutes later Brebber scored his second of the game to take back the four goal lead. Victoria outscored Nanaimo 7-4 in the middle frame to hold an 11-7 lead after forty minutes.
Casey Jackson put on a show in the third period, as he scored four more in the period to finish off an eight goal game. Corey Small scored a single in the third as Victoria walked away with a 16-9 win, outscoring Nanaimo 13-6 in the final two periods. Victoria is now 6-1-1 on the season while Nanaimo fell to 3-4.
