The Victoria Shamrocks are back to their winning ways after taking two straight games to improve their record to 5-2. They started the season 3-0 including an opening night record-breaking win, and then lost to the Maple Ridge Burrards and New Westminster Salmonbellies.
For each of the five wins it seems a different player has stepped up to produce the majority of the offense. Opening night, of the 18 goals scored Brentwood’s Cory Conway earned 17 points – a new league record. Rhys Duch has filled the net during the two most recent games to take the league lead in points. Chris Wardle was instrumental in a win over the Salmonbellies at the Q Centre.
Returning to the line-up is another one of those key players in Jesse King, who was third in team points last year with 64 and tied for team lead in goals with 33. King will play against the Burnaby Lakers tonight in Burnaby. Game time is 7:00 PM.
The Shamrocks are now in second place in the WLA behind only the Maple Ridge Burrards, who have played two extra games.
King missed the first seven games of the season due to his commitments to Ohio State University.
Three others will join the Shamrocks over the next two games including Cory Conway, who leads the WLA in assists with 31, Jeff Shattler and Adam Shute, who the Shamrocks picked up in a trade.
The Shamrocks next play at the Q Centre on Friday with game time slated for 7:45 PM.
