The Western Hockey League today announced that Victoria Royals’ forward Tyler Soy has been named the WHL On the Run Player of the Week.
Over three games this past week, the Cloverdale, BC native recorded four goals and four assists for eight points. Soy began the week with a hat-trick against the Portland Winterhawks where he became the all-time franchise leader in goals.
The Royals’ forward would earn another four points (1g-3a) on Friday night versus the Kelowna Rockets and concluded the week with an assist against Kelowna on Saturday. Friday’s game versus the Rockets was the second time this season, and tenth time in his WHL career, that Soy has scored four or more points in a single contest.
This is the fourth time the Cloverdale, BC native has been named WHL Player of the Week. Soy earned Player of the Week honours earlier this season, as well as in 2015-16 and 2016-17. This is the ninth time that a Royals player has been named Player of the Week after Alex Forsberg (2015-16), Brandon Magee (2014-15), Travis Brown (2014-15), Joe Hicketts (2014-15) and Alex Gogolev (2012-2013).
So far in his WHL career, the Anaheim Ducks prospect has played in 309 games and holds the franchise record for goals (143), assists (165) and points (308).
Victoria is on the road today to take on the Kelowna Rockets in a Family Day showdown with puck drop set for 2:05 p.m.
The Royals return home this Wednesday to kick off a five-game homestand against the Edmonton Oil Kings. Puck drop is slated for 7:05 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Select Your Tickets box office, over the phone by calling 250-220-7777, or online at www.selectyourtickets.com.
