The Victoria Royals will entertain the Calgary Hitmen for two games this Saturday and Sunday night at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Saturday is Hockey for Hospitals Night and will kick off at 7:05 p.m. On Sunday, CIBC Fan Night, the two teams will meet in a rematch at 5:05 p.m. with a Skate with the Players presented by CIBC taking place following the game.

HISTORY WITH THE HITMEN: Since the relocation of the club, the Royals have fared well against the Calgary Hitmen as the team has registered a mark of 8-4-1-0. Victoria’s last loss to the Hitmen occurred back on February 16, 2013. Since the 7-6 overtime loss in 2013, the Royals have won six consecutive games against Calgary and have outscored them 28-9.

SETTING THE BAR: Royals’ forward Tyler Soy (137), who recently played in his 300th career WHL game, is three goals away from tying former Chilliwack Bruin Ryan Howse’s all-time franchise record for most career goals at 140. Soy (154) recently became the franchise’s all-time assist leader when he passed former Royal and Bruin Brandon Magee (151) for most career helpers. Earlier this season, the Cloverdale, BC native (291) also broke the franchise’s all-time points mark when he surpassed Magee’s total of 264.

For a fourth consecutive year, the Royals have teamed up with the Victoria Hospitals Foundation to present Hockey for Hospitals in support of local hospitals. The Victoria Hospitals Foundation will be selling 50/50 tickets and Chuck a Pucks to raise funds for a new cardiac rhythm monitor for the Royal Jubilee Hospital Emergency Department.

A ceremonial puck drop will take place featuring Melanie Mahlman, President and CEO of the Victoria Hospitals Foundation, Kathy MacNeil, Interim President and CEO of Island Health, Bruce Dyck, Chair of the Board of the Victoria Hospitals Foundation and Dr. Chris Morrow, Division Head of Emergency Medicine.
