Victoria Royals’ Eric Florchuk named ot the 2018 Sherwin-Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game
The Victoria Royals would like to congratulate forward Eric Florchuk on being named to the upcoming Sherwin-Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.
The annual contest will see 40 of the top NHL Draft-eligible players from the Western Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League, and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League compete on Thursday, January 25, 2018 in Guelph, ON. The 40 CHL players competing in the game are selected by all 31 NHL clubs, and then divided into teams by NHL Central Scouting.
Florchuk was named to NHL Central Scouting’s November “Players to Watch” list for the 2018 NHL Draft, which takes place on June 22-23, 2018 in Dallas, Texas.
The 6-1, 173 lb forward is the first player in Royals’ history to be named to the Top Prospects Game, and second player in franchise history. Former Chilliwack Bruin Oscar Moller was a member of Team Bowman for the 2007 contest.
Currently, in his second WHL season, Florchuk has recorded 25 points (6g-19a) over 34 games and is tied for the fourth-most points on the Royals. The native of Fort Saskatchewan, AB is also the fourth-highest scoring 2000-born player in the WHL.
So far in his WHL career, Florchuk has earned nine goals and 25 assists for 34 points in 85 regular season games.
Florchuk was originally drafted by Victoria in the first round, 13th overall, in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft.
Victoria will wrap up their three-game BC Division road trip with a tilt versus the Vancouver Giants on Friday with puck drop set for 7:30 p.m.
The Royals will play their final game before the 10-day Christmas break on Saturday when they host the Giants at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
