The Victoria Royals shut down the Prince George Cougars, who are ranked seventh in the CHL, to earn a 2-1 win to begin the second half of the season with five consecutive victories.

The Royals held the Cougars to 26 shots on goal in the contest, that included only 13 in the opening 40 minutes to keep the homeside off the board for the majority of the game. Victoria’s Vladimir Bobylev opened the scoring in the first stanza when he scored on the powerplay. The Royals’ Regan Nagy registered the game-winner in the second period when he batted the puck out of midair off a rebound into the Cougars’ net.

Prince George’s lone goal was tallied by Kody McDonald in the final frame.

With a goal and an assist tonight, Regan Nagy has now collected points in five straight (2g-6a) contests. Jack Walker, who recorded an assist on the game-winner, also extended his point streak to four matches (3g-2a).

Victoria goaltender Griffen Outhouse, who played in his first game since being named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week, stopped 25 of the 26 shots he faced. With the victory, Outhouse has now earned 22 wins on the year which places him in second among all goalies in the WHL. Cougars’ netminder Ty Edmonds turned aside 36 of the 38 pucks fired his way.

The Royals held a mark of 1/3=33.3% on the man-advantage, whereas the Cougars went 0/2=0.0%.

Victoria and Prince George will face-off again tomorrow night in the final meeting of the regular season between the two clubs. Puck drop for the contest is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

The Royals return home next week to play the Kelowna Rockets on Wednesday, January 11th, and Friday, January 13th, and to take on the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday, January 14th.
