The Victoria HarbourCats opened the 2016 West Coast League playoffs with a 3-2 loss to the visiting Bellingham Bells. They have a chance to even the series tonight at Royal Athletic Park starting at 7:00 PM.

Victoria starter Austin Dondanville who sports a regular season record of 6-1 with a 1.72 ERA pitched for five complete innings giving up five hits and two earned runs. He got three strikeouts and walked three.

In relief Cameron Schneider allowed two hits, and there was a run charged to him, while he also walked four walks in just 1 and 1/3rd innings. He was replaced by Greg Casper in the seventh inning.

Schneider had a rough game to be sure and was accredited with the loss.

Bellingham pitchers were starter Jon Olsen and closer Sam Hellinger, they collectively gave up six hits.

The Bells left 11 stranded, but Victoria left just four runners stranded.

The HarbourCats on any other night could have won that game.

Victoria set the all-time WCL regular-season record of 40-14, which included a league-record 19-game consecutive win streak. Bellingham was a respectable 32-22.

Josh Mitchell, who sports a 7-0 record and a 1.86 ERA, will be tonight’s starting pitcher for the HarbourCats.
