The Victora Grizzlies (22-14-3-2) played a four-pointer Tuesday night at The Q! Centre, hosting division rivals, the Nanaimo Clippers (22-15-3-2). The final score was 6-3 for Victoria. The win allowed them to leapfrog Nanaimo and the Powell River Kings into a tie for first place in the Island Division, with Nanaimo. But for the moment, the Grizzlies occupy first, having one game in-hand. The Kings are two points back (47), but have two games in-hand on Victoria and three games in-hand on Nanaimo.

They took a total of 70 shots, 37 for Nanaimo and 33 for Victoria, while neither team could capitalize on six powerplay opportunities, as the Clippers went 0/4 and the Grizzlies 0/2.

Nanaimo opened the scoring with the only goal of the first period, which came at the 4:53 mark. Joshua Bourne notched his fourth of the season from Parker Colley and David Silye.

Cameron Thompson scored the game-winner, to put the Grizzlies up 4-3 at 19:53 of the second period. Alex Newhook and Lucas Clark assisted, it was Thompson’s ninth of the season.

Taz Burman earned the loss in net for Nanaimo, while Zachary Rose manned the Victoria net.

Thompson would end up scoring a second goal, while Newhook led the way with one goal and two assists.

Colley and Syle each picked up two assists for Nanaimo in the  losing cause in front of 903 fans.

Michaelian had a solid game in both ends of the rink, using his usual physical style of play that he brings into every game. But his game tonight will mostly be remembered for a beautiful goal he scored in the third period to give the Grizzlies a 2 goal lead.
