The Victoria Grizzlies ended their 2017-2018 regular season campaign on a high note; capping a good season with a solid, come-from-behind, double-overtime 4-3 win over the Surrey Eagles.
The Grizzlies ended up in first place in the Island Division and fifth overall in the three-division, 17-team British Columbia Hockey League. Their regular season record was a very respectable 32-18-4-4.
They played through February with a 7-1-1 record, losing only to West Kelowna, in West Kelowna by the score of 6-3.
January was nearly as good at 7-4-1; they had a rough road trip where they lost three consecutive, then came home and tied the first game back 3-3 against Nanaimo – that tough first game back after a road trip is tough to win.
The Grizzlies will face the Alberni Valley Bulldogs in the first round of the post-season. The Grizzlies went 7-1 against the Bulldogs during the regular season.
The Bulldogs finished in fourth place out of five Island Division teams and sported a record of 17-32-5-4.
The Grizzlies should be favoured to sweep, however, the post-season is a new season and all teams, and especially teams with apparently nothing to lose can sometimes be the toughest opponents.
The first two games will take place Friday and Sunday, March 2 and 4 at The Q Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 pm Friday and 2:00 pm on the Sunday.
