When you take 40 shots in a hockey game, you typically win, but not last night for the Victoria Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies hosted the Coquitlam Express last night at The Q Centre in Colwood and even though they thoroughly outplayed the visitors, the game went to double overtime and ended in a final score of 4-4.
The Express managed 31 shots.
Will Lawrence of the Express forced overtime at 15:50 of the third period.
Goaltender Reid Cooper kept the Express in the game and was likely the best player between both teams.
Although the BCHL leading Grizzlies have only one win during their previous five games, they have tied two, lost in overtime and won one – two games were during the BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack.
Their record is now 5-1-1-2.
League-leading point-getter Cole Pickup (16 points) opened the scoring just two minutes into the game. The Express answered back to tie the score when Owen Stout scored on Mitchel Benson from in-close.
Nathan Looysen scored at the eight-minute mark. The goal was assisted by Pickup.
Cory Hatcher and Marty Westhaver had the other goals for the Grizz, to put the team up by the score of 4-2.
The final shot total was 40-31 for the Grizzlies, while the power-plays went 0/4 for the Express and 1/8 for the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies play again tonight in Powell River, puck drop is scheduled for 7:15 PM.
