The second-place Victoria Grizzlies waltzed into Powell River and gracefully slipped the first-place team a 6-3 defeat. The Kings still lead the division with 30 points to the Grizzlies 29 and have two games in-hand.
It was a big win for the Grizzlies as the Nanaimo Clippers kept pace with a 3-2 win in Chilliwack tonight. Both teams have played 25 games and both teams have 29 points.
Justin Michaelian opened the scoring at 44 seconds with his 10th of the season. Dayne Finnson and Jamie Rome assisted.
Kyle Kawamura would get one back at 6:34, with his seventh.
Shawn O’Malley scored his second of the season for the Grizzlies at 14:39 with Jacson Alexander assisting.
The teams skated to the dressing room with the Grizzlies up 2-1.
The second and the third periods would have the same result with the Grizzlies outscoring the Kings 2-1 in each period. Marty Westhaver notched his fifth and sixth of the season at 17:54 of the second and 18:29 of the third. Rome scored at 19:44, otherwise, before Westhaver’s second goal; it was a close 4-3 game.
Rome scored into the empty net, unassisted.
The Grizzlies took 33 shots to Powell River’s 30, while both powerplays went 1/3.
Manning the net for Victoria was Zachary Rose, while Mitch Adamyk took the loss for the Kings.
The Grizzlies next game is a veritable four-pointer when Nanaimo pays them a visit to The Q Centre on Friday, Nov. 24th. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
