Craig Didmon, Victoria Grizzlies

Just over 3 days before the club’s home opener on September 9, the Victoria Grizzlies have largely finalized their roster for the upcoming BCHL season, announcing the signings of two new players.

Forwards Nolan Welsh (99) and a local player Cory Hatcher (97).

Nolan Welsh played last season with the Burnaby Hockey Academy and hails from Whistler B.C. Nolan is the younger brother of current Grizzlies centermen Tyler Welsh.

Cory Hatcher, from Victoria, played the last two season with the West Shore Wolves of the VIJHL.

Both players were walk on’s at camp and won jobs based on their performance in training camp.

Cody Van Lierop will be our 2016-2017 captain. Cole Pickup and Tyler Welsh will be full time assistant captains with the team. Jake Stevens and Bret Stirling will be sharing the third assistant captaincy.

The Grizzlies were undefeated in the preseason winning 6 games straight. They hope to continue the streak this home opener weekend. The Grizzlies match up against Powell River on Friday and Port Alberni on Saturday.
