The Victoria Cougars won a pair of games over the weekend both by the score of 4-1. On Saturday they visited the Kerry Park Islanders and then Sunday, hosted the Westshore Wolves. The Wolves and the Islanders learned quickly that the Cougars want first place back and are determined to achieve it. They now sit one point back of arch rival Saanich Braves and are positioned to leap-frog them into first.
The Braves have 28 points and the Cougars 27 after 19 games.
The Braves last played Friday, November 4th when they visited the Peninsula Panthers and soundly defeated them 11-0.
The Cougars visit the Islanders Tuesday. Game time is slated for 7:30 PM. The Islanders are well back of the Cougars and Braves with just 15 points with two games in hand. The season isn’t over, but they need to start winning now. This should be an exciting matchup.
The Victoria Sports News unofficial Game of the Week pits the Saanich Braves against the Victoria Cougars on Thursday November 10th at Archie Browning Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
North Division News: The Comox Valley Glacier Kings have been trailing the Campbell River Storm all season, but have been breathing down their neck. On Saturday, the Glacier Kings defeated their North Division neighbours 2-1 despite only getting 14 shots on net and only one during the first period.
It was during the second period over a 3:50 stretch the Kings scored twice, to take a 2-0 lead and then hung on for the win. The Kings’ shutout bid was broken at 5:10 of the third, to make for an exciting final few minutes.
The Kings are still seven points back, but do have one game in hand.
