Jake Nixon is making a return.
After spending last season as an assistant coach for the Westshore Wolves, Nixon returns to the Victoria Cougars following a five-year absence.
“Jake will be an integral part of our coaching staff this upcoming season,” Cougars head coach Suneil Karod said. “I have given him some responsibilities right away and I know he will run with them.”
Nixon will be working closely with fellow assistant coach and former teammate Jake Stolz in running both the defense and penalty kill.
“Jake [Nixon] has a great hockey mind and he will make us a stronger team. Having coached Jake and coached with him, I am very confident he is going to impact our program immediately, much as he did as a player. Jake was also a big factor in our Cyclone berth,” Karod said.
The now 27-year-old student of the game played 36 contests for the Cougars in the 2011-12 season, scoring nine points.
Victoria advanced to the Cyclone Taylor Cup that year.
