Stan Peterec and Peterec Productions will be putting on  Friday Night Fights at Eagle Ridge Centre Friday, April 6 and the main event will be an International Kickboxing Federation (IKF) World Title fight between Victoria’s own Tim “Pacman” Packer and Daniel Strahan, who fights out of Los Angeles or nearby Garden Grove, California.

Packer is the current Canadian 127-pound featherweight champion. He sports a record of 9-2, while Strahan is 9-0. The main event is scheduled for five rounds.

Packer, the two-time Dillon Brown Trophy award winner is one of the most exciting fighters in Western Canada, with his aggressive attack and relentless pursuit of his opponent.

The Dillon Brown Trophy is given to the most exciting fighter of the evening. An award that is apt for Packer, who happened to be good friends with Brown when he was killed in an apparent targeted attack in Sayward, BC at age 30 in 2016. The Saanich resident was also a promising kickboxer.

“[of Strahan] I know he is kind of a flashy fighter, so he is going to want to keep his range and throw some spin kicks and flashy kicks,” said Packer of his opponent.

Victoria’s 13-2-0 Rob Doerksen is fighting Bowman, Ontario’s Jake McKenzie who sports a record of 42-6-0. He fights out of the club, Redemption Ontario. The bout will be the “co-main event”.

The fighters will both weigh in at approximately 165 pounds and will be contesting the IKF World Middleweight title.

Victoria’s Landon Larson will finally get his opportunity to land some punches. Declaring himself healthy and fit, he is currently preparing to take on a fighter that he was scheduled to battle at Slugfest VII in the fall of 2017, Jimmy Nguyen of Surrey. They are both competing in the 153-pound super middleweight class for the Canadian title.

Larson sports a record of 3-1.

“I am in good shape right now,” said Larson. “I was injured last time when the fight didn’t happen, but this time I am ready.”

Their fight is also scheduled for five rounds.

There will also be at least one Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) bought. Mitch Striazella with Island MMA (2-0) will take on Vancouver’s Glen Cuevas, who is currently 2-1.

The undercard also includes Matt Goodwin of Port Alberni at 140 pounds (4-0) up against Jordan Giebel (6-5). Nicholas Smeader with Martial Arts Unlimited (2-0) at 142 pounds will take on Jordan Kinnard of Campbell River (2-4). Jason Szakal of Peterec’s (4-4) will face Bruce Khadem of WKX in Surrey (6-5). They are fighting a three-round match at 165-pound weight class.

Peterec has a few more fighters including 155-pound Shawn Hill who is 2-0 up against Victor Egda of VMA, who has a record of 1-0. Forty-five-year-old Michigo Shew will fight for her very first time against Matilda Chiu who is with WKX of Surrey. She has one fight to her credit, a win.

Also in their first fight is Aleks Nojszewski versus Marlene Noel of Team Bastion in Campbell River. Chris Henrion of Crusher Combat of Langford at 175 pounds will be taking on David Callbeck of Fight Farm in Saskatchewan, who won his only fight to date. They will open the show.

Lineups can change as fight date draws closer due to the health of the athletes training. Check Victoria Sports News for the latest on the Friday Night Fights fight card.
