It was the third and final day of qualifying for the 2018 SCCA® National Championship Runoffs® at Sonoma Raceway in Northern California. Each of the 28 different car classes had one, final qualifying session today to decide who becomes Tire Rack Pole Award winners. There was a power outage in the region around the track this morning, which delayed on-track activities. Because of the delay, qualifying sessions today were shortened to 15 minutes.

The weather was clear and warm and although the sessions were short, the racers at Sonoma Raceway are giving there all against many of the best amateur club racers from the USA and Canada who have made it to the Championships.

B.C is represented by no fewer than a dozen racers, but only Bill Okell represents the Island in the F Production class and the GT-Lite class. Today’s  results could have been better for Okell as he finished up 15th overall in both classes driving the Huffaker Engineering, California owned Austin Healey Sprite (see attached images  from today) Although the car is from the early 1960’s, it had a major upgrade in 1992, making it competitive with most of the newer small bore race cars.

Okell will be starting at the back of both groups tomorrow and Saturday, but that is expected to ensure some very good hard charger racing toward the front, keeping in mind that the experienced racers ahead will not make that easy. A top ten finish for Okell will be the goal for both races.

All races will be rebroadcast in December on CBS.

OKell’s Friday GTL race is at 10:40 AM and Saturday’s F  Production race is at 3:40 PM —To view live video and audio go here Watch Live
