The PGA has re-committed to Victoria for summer 2017, with the Tour’s Pacific Links Championships to take place again at Bear Mountain in September 11-17.
According to Bear Mountain, the 2016 edition was the best attended event on Vancouver Island with 27,000 spectators attending which was complemented by a broadcast on the Gold Channel around the world.
The 2016 final came down to an exciting playoff hole, where Colin Montgomerie defeated Scott McCarron with a fifteen-foot putt during the third extra hole.
“The setting is superb, a fantastic course and the people of Victoria made us all so welcome. I am very much looking forward to returning to defend my title in 2017,” said Montgomerie from a press release.
Bear Mountain was chosen as a replacement site for the PGA Tour Champions schedule in 2015. The event that Bear Mountain replaced was the Pacific Links China Championship, which was cancelled out of respect for families and those who died in an industrial explosion near the original venue in the city of Tianjin.
