A near top-20 showing from fifth-year Vike Forrest Simpson was the highlight performance of an impressive Vikes effort at the Canadian Cross Country Championships hosted in Kingston, ON on November 26.

Simpson, originally from Nanaimo, finished in 22nd spot in the Senior Men’s race. Going up against a strong field of Olympic, Pan American and World Championship competitors, Simpson finished in a time of just under 31 minutes. The big result is just another in a strong Vikes career for Simpson, who was named a Canada West First Team-All Star after a 16th place finish at the U Sports nationals earlier in the fall.

Josh KozeljChet Goerzen and Alexander Nemethy all finished in the top-50 of a 108 athlete deep field in the Junior Men’s race.

Kozelj was the top finisher of the three, coming across the finish line in 25th place. Goerzen finished the race in 37th, 14 seconds ahead of Nemethy who finished in 45th.

After an outstanding fall season, Chloe Hegland was the lone member of the Vikes women’s cross-country team competing at the Championships.

Hegland, who also earned a Canada West First Team All-Star nod with her outstanding run at the U Sports Cross Country Championships, finished the race in 36th spot out of the 62 athletes competing in the Senior Women’s race.
