The BC Football Conference champion Westshore Rebels Head Coach J.C. Boice announced his departure from the club after going to the nationals against the Saskatoon Hilltops. Since then, the Rebels’ organization had replaced Boice with new Head Coach Charly Cardilicchia. There was uncertainty if Assistant Head Coach Shane Beatty would remain with the club. Today it was announced that he will continue on in the same capacity.
From a press statement released earlier today, the club said, “We are happy to announce that Coach Beatty has agreed to continue on as Assistant Head Coach, as well as Strength and Conditioning Coach and Director of Player Development.”
Beatty added, “After being a part of the growing success of the Rebels team over the past year I wasn’t ready to leave. I am so proud of our team and I know that this year we will come back even stronger with the help of our highly experienced team of Coaches. I still have more to teach these talented football players and I look forward to the upcoming season.”
Beatty provides decades of coaching and athletic training experience to the position.
Beatty has coached for 23 years at the University level in the U.S., in a wide variety of roles.
He has served as Recruiting Coordinator and Assistant Coach at Reedley College, Defensive Coordinator and Head Coach at West Virginia Tech, Assistant Director of Football Operations at Iowa State, and Defensive Coordinator and Strength Coach at the College of Sequoias. Beatty has also trained high level athletes outside of football, including high school and collegiate athletes, wrestlers, Olympic sprinters, and pro golfers. During his three seasons as Head Coach of the Okanagan Sun, Beatty was awarded CJFL Coach of the Year twice, and led the team to a BCFC championship in 2015. Beatty is also a Rebels alumni; he played for the team as a linebacker in 1988 and 1989.
“We were really hoping Shane would continue this season. With J.C. leaving it was important to keep some consistency in the coaching staff. Beatty is an excellent coach with many years of high level coaching experience. We are in really good shape to carry the Rebels success into the 2017 season,” said Jonathan Poppitt, General Manager of Westshore Rebels.
