HSBC Rugby Sevens tickets for the 2017 tournament are selling like hotcakes! Weekend passes are virtually sold out and as of 10 am this morning (November 28) single day passes are now available. Matches take place March 10-11 in BC Place, Vancouver and if the 2016 tournament was anything to go by, it will be an exciting two days. Tickets are available at: http://www.canadasevens.com/mens/
The Dubai Sevens kicks off the 2016-2017 season on Friday and Rugby Canada have a men’s squad led by veteran players and talented youth. The squad features 11 players with previous series experience while Karsten Leitner and Caleb Jordan are set to make their series debuts for Canada.
John Moonlight (James Bay AA) will captain the side while Harry Jones, Mike Fuailefau (Castaways) Phil Berna, Nate Hirayama (UVic Vikes), Justin Douglas, Adam Zaruba, Pat Kay (Castaways), Matt Mullins and Luke McCloskey (Castaways) are also selected. After missing all of last season, Liam Underwood is also named to Canada’s roster. Canada will play Fiji, Argentina and Wales on Friday – day one of the tournament.
Meanwhile on the women’s side – the Olympic Bronze Medalists will kick off the Dubai Sevens on Thursday, December 1 by playing Brazil, Spain and England. While many familiar faces will be in Dubai Canada is in a transition period, balancing the loss of some veterans while introducing some new young players.
Gone are Karen Paquin and Kelly Russell, but Britt Benn, Hannah Darling, Bianca Farella, Ghislaine Landry, Megan Lukan, Kayla Moleschi, Ashley Steacy, Natasha Watcham-Roy and Charity Williams are on the roster. Julia Greenshields, Sara Kaljuvee and Breanne Nicholas round out the squad.
