The Victoria Royals are proud to announce that the club has been named the WHL Scholastic Team of the Year for the 2016-17 season. Royals’ Education Advisor Tammy Renyard accepted the award on the club’s behalf.

This award is given to the team that achieves the highest overall academic performance throughout the regular season. This marks the first time that Victoria has won the award.

“The education of our players is of paramount importance,” President and General Manger Cameron Hope said. “Tammy, along with the tremendous support that we receive from the staff at Victoria High School, is integral to this commitment. We take great pride in what we do to prepare our players for post-secondary opportunities.”

This season Royals’ players enrolled at Victoria High School, or who upgraded courses for post-secondary institutions, achieved a grade point average of 91.34%, the highest in team history.

Renyard has been the team’s education advisor since the club moved to Victoria six years ago. During that span, the Royals’ players have attended Victoria High School. Both Renyard and the staff at Victoria High School have been outstanding and flexible in their support of the team and its commitment to education.

Since the Royals relocated to Vancouver Island, 28 former players have activated their WHL Scholarships for 49 years worth of education to date.
